DWND Presents...The 25 Verses To Remember In 2011: #17 - Asher Roth

Posted by K. Van Gogh On Thursday, December 15, 2011 0 comments

17.

Asher Roth - New Jeeps (Dom Kennedy f/ Asher Roth & Sir Michael Rocks - New Jeeps)
Asher remained quiet for most of 2011, until now of course, as he gears up for his debut Def Jam release, but he laced a standout Dom track from his highly anticipated From The Westside With Love 2 album with a verse that might re-define wordplay for a few listeners...another verse that won't get done justice by snapshotting a few bars. Press play above.

DWND Presents...The 25 Verses To Remember In 2011: #18 - Big Sean

Big Sean - Slight Work (Wale f/ Big Sean - Slight Work)
2011 was a pretty big year for Big Sean, collaborating with almost every relevant artist you could think of and releasing his debut album in the summer, good for just about 90,000 copies first week and accolades out his ass. But over a Diplo beat, he did everything but slightly work on a standout cut from Wale's first MMG album, Ambition.

"Only thing between me and ya bitch is a latex, man
And I ain't into saving these hoes (what?),
My nigga tell me where you see a cape at
B-i, b-i, bitch b-i-g, two things I won't need are you and my ID
But I'ma need a yellow cab, and a yellow bad bitch
Green faces but a nigga dodgin' yellow badges, woop,
Cuz I'm drunk...
...Under 25, livin' the fuckin' life,
White America said I'd be doin' 25 to life,
And just for that, I'ma blow 25 tonight
You make 25 a year? I make 25 a night, woah."

DWND Presents...The 25 Verses To Remember In 2011: #19 - Curt@!n$

Curt@!n$ - Swervin' Remix (Nakim f/ Mickey Factz, Curt@!n$ & Smoke DZA)
After raping numerous beats all year, the rapper with the most difficult name to type out (this post has already taken me 5 minutes longer than expected) hopped on one of the dopest remixes all year along with good friends DZA & Mickey, and out-rapped them both.

To put a notable quote would be to type out the whole verse, so watch the video instead, directed by the homie Slick Jackson.

20.

A$AP Twelvy & A$AP Nast - Trilla (A$AP Rocky f/ A$AP Twelvy & A$AP Nast - Trilla)
The last few months of 2011 were definitely slowly but surely taken over by the wave of trill that was A$AP Rocky and his co-horts with their Houston flows and N.W.A-esque attire all over Bone Thugz-like beats. But just in case you were thinking that, as usual, there's only one talented member of the group and the rest are just there for show, take a listen to Twelvy and Nast's verses on the LIVELOVEA$AP standout cut "Trilla". That thought probably won't ever enter your mind again.

"Goin' broke is not an option
Always got that cash flow,
She used to call me asshole, now she drop that ass low
Fuck it man, I'm past dope, sour diesel stash though
ASAP we the last hope, fuck it this my fast flow
I slow it down, I pick it up,
Blue jeans I rip 'em up
That swag bitch, you mad bitch, see you in my past bitch."
-A$AP Twelvy

"God bless America, my flow hysteria
Style wild like my nigga Common after Erykah
Yo' bitch I'm in bed with her, head so good
Make a nigga feel good to the point I wanna marry her
But I be on my pimpin' shit, check, out, my limp and shit
I be gettin' money, gettin' money, can you get it bitch
Hoes get on my pimpin' shit, all aboard, all aboard,
East coast muthafuckas makin' all the noise all the noise."
-A$AP Nast

DWND Presents...The 25 Verses To Remember In 2011: #21 - Rick Ross

21.

Rick Ross - I'm A Boss (Meek Mill f/ Rick Ross - I'm A Boss)
2011 proved to be the year Maybach Music Group formally presented themselves to the hip-hop world as a force, and if anything officially marks that claim it would be the aforementioned track, produced by now-signed-to-Roc-Nation-producer Jahlil Beats. Meek Mill's most popular song was graced with a powerful verse from his CEO, who took the opportunity to fire back a couple shots at his blogging naysayer(s).

"Got so many shades they thought I had a lazy eye,
Shorty rode me smooth as my Mercedes drive,
No love cry when only babies die,
And when I go that casket better cost a hundred thou
I pray to God I look my killer in his eyes
Snatch his soul out his shirt let's take him for that pride
OG is one who's standing on his own feet
A boss is one who guarantee we gon' eat
Fuck a blog dog 'cuz one day we gon' meet
I'ma spaz on yo ass like I'm on E"

Lil' Wayne - Look At Me Now (Chris Brown f/ Lil' Wayne & Busta Rhymes - Look At Me Now)
After being released from jail late last year it was clear that Lil' Wayne's intentions shortly after were to regain his status as one of the biggest players at the table of hip-hop, and after many dope guest verses to end 2010 off with a bang (Miss Me, Thank Me Later; No Love, Recovery), not to mention the lead single off his now platinum-certified Carter IV album, it seemed Lil' Wayne was poised to continue the onslaught once 2012 came. One of Chris Brown's lead singles from his most recent album, F.A.M.E. did nothing to disprove that claim, as Weezy was able to follow a scene-stealing verse from Busta Rhymes with one of his best performances all year.

"Never gave a f*ck about a hater got money on my radar,
dress like a skater, got a big house came with an elevator,
you n*ggas ain't eatin', f*ckin' tell a waiter
Marley said shoot 'em and I said okay
If you on that bullsh*t then I'm like Ole
I don't care what you say, so don't even speak
Your girlfriend a freak like Cirque Du Soleil
That's word to my flag, and my flag red
I'm out of my head, bitch I'm out of my mind
From the bottom I climb
You ain't hotter than mine nope, not on my time
Man I'm not even' tryin', what's poppin' slime?
Nothin' five, and if they trippin' f*ck 'em five
I ain't got no time to shuck and jive these n*ggas is sweet as pumpkin pie"

Casey Veggies - Beats, Hoes & Rhymes (Dom Kennedy f/ Casey Veggies & Schoolboy Q)
One of the best projects to drop in 2011 boasted a stellar lineup of new school Cali standouts on its 15th track, that are sure to make infinite noise in 2012. While CDC (The Original Dom Kennedy) may have introduced most current Casey Veggies fans to his ability to mix dope rhymes with numerous flows, BH&R did nothing but showcase it.

"Dark shades in the party, ain't worried 'bout nobody
Man that girl know she got it I might get her nigga watch me
And I ain't just gon' pull her, I'ma make that girl love me
In this world full of darkness I'm just tryna stay above it
I just need some inspiration, maybe some ventilation
Maybe I should start racin' all the shit that I'm chasin', take it slow
A nigga used to lettin' it go,
One thing that I learned, there's just a bunch of shit I don't know"

Drake - All Of The Lights Remix (Kanye West f/ Lil' Wayne, Big Sean & Drake)
Another huge stage finds Drake in spot 24, as he ended what seemed to be a never-ending hiatus with this scene-stealing verse on the remix to Kanye's hit single, that Kanye actually didn't appear on. This began Drake's ascent to dropping Take Care less than a month ago, and he sounded a little upset that some had forgotten him.

"I hate y'all, y'all got too much free time
Sayin' I ain't drop shit, everything'll be fine."

Considering Take Care just did just under 700k first week, looking back at this verse, you can't help but be in awe a little bit. Nice.

DWND Presents...The 25 Verses To Remember In 2011: #25

Posted by K. Van Gogh On Thursday, December 08, 2011 0 comments

2011 will probably be remembered for quite a few things. The rise of crews, the roaring sound the underground made on the train tracks of every mainstream stage in music, and, to be quite honest, Watch The Throne. But Deal With No Deal is going to countdown 25 verses, that are more than just verses, but moments rather, that will undoubtedly be a reminder of what 2011 had to offer. Lyrics is just the foundation. Which rapper stepped up to the plate? The bigger the risk the bigger the reward. From now until the number one verse is announced on December 31st you'll have 25 times to answer that question. Guest verses and freestyles only...and to start it off, why not check out #25 & #24.

25.

Jadakiss - Its Good (Lil' Wayne f/ Jadakiss & Drake)
This is probably one of the more memorable records of the summer, for numerous reasons. Three of the biggest names in rap on the same track, on what was (for reasons unbeknownst to me) a heavily touted and highly anticipated album, with not-so-subliminal shots tossed back towards the Roc Nation general from Lil' Wayne, stemming back from an indirect spat they had in January. Needless to say, it was a huge stage, and while people debated endlessly about Drake and Lil' Wayne's possible involvement in a public beef with Kanye West and Jay-Z, Jadakiss kinda just walked in the back door and preached a little gospel. Just imagine a crowd full of inner-city youth gathering around a pulpit listening to one of the greatest say things like...

"I'm still in the hood, but I probably should move
Made enough money, I don't fuck around
I just felt they needed me so I stuck around
Feds got my my man, shit is real son,
'Cuz my god-son just became my real son."
