Nas said Hip-Hop Is Dead in 2006 but I believe when Christopher Wallace passed away this day, 13 years ago, a part of our culture died along with him. Right now, mainstream Hip-Hop suffers from a lack of the things that emcees like Biggie brought to the table. B.I.G. was charismatic, one of our better lyricists, made great songs (no matter the subject), and had the ability to create amazing stories. I'm not one to write long, editorial-like blogs so I won't start here but I figured I'd make a post to pay homage and respect to the Notorious. Rest in peace.

Today, one of hip hop's legends passed away after being in a coma all day due to cardiac arrest. Its weird because I was just listening to the song above a couple days ago. We lost another one before we got to get another Gang Starr album. Guru will most definitely be missed.

According to Preemo, Guru is still in surgery so do not believe any rumors.

This year has been crazy.

In 1999, Grand Master status was bestowed upon Roc Raida by a group of pioneering Hip Hop DJs, during a conference at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame & Museum.

Anthony Williams p/k to the world as The Legendary Grand Master Roc Raida has passed away unexpectedly today Sept 19 2009. He is survived by his wife, 3 lovely daughters, mother and friends. Raida was recently in an mixed martial arts accident, something that he has been practicing for several years. Although he had under gone 2 surgeries with great success, was released to an inpatient physical therapy facility and was in great spirits the past few days. This morning he started to have complications and passed. The family asks for privacy at this time.

Another one.. 2009 just doesn't care. Rest In Peace.
