Lex Luger's Interview w/ Complex Magazine

Posted by K. Van Gogh On Friday, February 18, 2011 0 comments

A must-read I just came across on their site. Luger addresses how he collaborated with Kanye West, the story behind Wiz' Taylor Gang and an unexpected phone call he recieved from Chingy among other things, most notably why "all his beats sound the same"...

“It is [true], in a way. But every interview I do, I try to tell them that it’s a lot more than that [‘B.M.F.’ sound]. When I’m sending out 40 beats a day to one artist, out of those 40 he might pick two just because they sound like ‘B.M.F.’ or ‘Hard In The Paint,’ and he feels like that’s his hit. I think that’s a big problem in music right now. Everybody is like, ‘Oh, he’s hot right now. I’m going to try and get something that sounds like him.’ And that’s what I feel like a lot of artists did to me because Waka was really the biggest thing at one time. So they wanted that ‘Hard In The Paint’ sound. And I was just the man behind that, so they reached out to me. So when I sent them other types of music, they were like ‘What is this?’ I want ‘B.M.F.’ or ‘Hard In The Paint. Don’t send me this.’ So what I try to do now is, I try and hold the ‘B.M.F.’ and ‘Hard In The Paint’ sound to myself. I won’t send that out. I’ll send the pop music or the R&B out to the major artists so they have to do it.”

Eminem Covers Complex (Jan/Feb 2010)

Posted by Cris Copastetik On Tuesday, December 01, 2009 0 comments

So the sequel won't reflect your reaction to the first one and its reception?
Eminem: Well, when I finished Relapse, I had a whole album of material that didn't make it that I wasn't ready to throw away, so that was going to be Relapse 2. But then I got with Dre in Hawaii and started recording more, and now the new material has knocked out all the old songs. But yeah, the new material is definitely different. Making Relapse, I was still working the drugs out of my system, so there was a lot of...just jokey shit. It was a lot of punchline-y, funny, shock value—kind of going back to The Slim Shady LP. And that was cool, but I've kind of flipped the page. Now I'm going for songs instead of one-liners. I don't want to make shit that you hear once and then the joke's over; I want to make records that you could play a hundred times, a thousand times.

Game Talks 50 Cent vs. Jay-Z

Posted by Cris Copastetik On Thursday, November 19, 2009 0 comments

Complex: What do you think that the result of that battle would be?

Game: Jay-Z will fuck 50 up in a battle! It would be so fast and over with. 50 is funny, but Jay is witty. Jay-Z is not to be toyed with. If he fuckin’ responds, if he feels like you’re really pissing him off and he responds, he’s gonna fuck you up! He would fuck me up, I’m just glad he didn’t fuckin’ respond, so I didn’t have to go dig in my fuckin’ bag and try to fuck him up. I definitely think that Jay-Z didn’t come at me like he came at any other rappers because I definitely would have been more disrespectful and once you start a beef with me you better be ready to go the whole motherfuckin’ 12 rounds because I will try to chew your fuckin’ ear off like Mike Tyson. I’ll do it and I think he knew that—I’m disrespectful. So Jay, he did the right thing and just kinda let it die down and I let it die down ’cause it wasn’t anything really. It was fuckin’ fun and I really admire Jay’s career. I just really don’t care too much for the man himself.

Jeezy covers Complex

Posted by Tori Cheyenne On Tuesday, September 22, 2009 0 comments

After they released the Clipse and Kaws cover yesterday today brings young Jeezy on the cover lookin' like a model. I had to do a double take for a sec.

Snippet of the interview:
Complex: Why is that?
Young Jeezy: ’Cause I’m still focused. Don’t get me wrong, I ain’t gonna sit here and act like I ain’t got some things going on, but that ain’t never been my get-up. Anybody that I ever dealt with knows that I’m a very focused individual, and when it comes to my work and what I do, you might have to play the back burner to that.

Complex: Does your situation with DJ Drama—
Young Jeezy: Man, I would never talk about that in my Complex Magazine interview, are you crazy? [Laughs.] No more light. Fight is over.

Complex: No more light.

Young Jeezy: Grown, baby, we moving on. I ain’t really no nigga to search for attention or do shit to get attention. I never mentioned niggas’ names, or said anything about anything throughout my career to get no cool points—I just mind my business. But at the same time, I’m a man first. If I feel offended, I’ma speak on it. Like you, you’re not gonna be walking along and a motherfucker just say something crazy to you in the middle of Manhattan and you gonna just keep it moving? You’re gonna say your piece or what? [Laughs.]

Kid Cudi in Complex mag (on fame) "its an illusion"

Posted by Tori Cheyenne On Monday, August 03, 2009 0 comments

Honestly, this video of Kid Cudi is a turnoff. While I understand his resentment of fame & stardom, which is probably very hard at times, I think that if he really hated the fame he could've stayed underground and fame-less?? If he feels as though what's happening around him is hellish, then why not give it up to someone who actually wants the success. I think I'm just not a fan of his aura, but I do love "Poke her Face" (Make her say). Maybe some of the inspiring rappers can shed light on how Cudi feels...after you watch the video!!
