Despite Drizzy being affiliated with Young Money he has chosen to choose a different parent label to represent him. Instead of going the same route as Birdman and Lil Wayne, Drake has decided to sign with Universal Republic and not Motown. Stating, "I went through Universal Republic because I don’t fuck with Motown. At All.”, in a Fader Mag article due out August 18 the reason behind not choosing Motown to represent him is most likely due to bad blood between him and label president Sylvia Rhone.
If you a big enough fan of Drake then you know the line from "Say What's Real" from his mixtape So Far Gone: "“I’ve always been something that these labels can’t buy/especially if they trying to take a piece of my soul/and Sylvia be telling Tez/Damn, Drake fly/and he just be like, ’silly motherfucka I know‘”. He states that the Young Money logo will still appear on the album out of respect for Wayne. Cop the mag when it hits newsstands for more of the interview.
